Loans

A loan records that an item is out of your hands: who has it, where it is, and when it is due back. The Loans section lists them all, and reminders tell you before a return date arrives.

Recording a loan

Open the item and choose Record Loan in its Loans section, or press + in the Loans section and pick the item. The form asks for:

• Name, the borrower. Required.
• Contact / Email.
• Venue / Institution.
• Start Date.
• Has Return Date, then Return By.
• Status: Active, Overdue or Returned.
• Insurance Value with a currency, and Insurer. Both start with whatever you used on the last loan.
• Notes.

An agreement document can be attached to the loan from the item's documents.

The Loans section

• Segments switch between Active and Returned loans.
• Each row shows the item, the borrower and the due date. Overdue loans read Nd overdue; upcoming ones read Due in Nd.
• The printer button prints the current list as a PDF.
• Deleting a loan removes only the loan record. The item is untouched.

The Home hub greeting mentions loans returning in the next two weeks, and the Mac menu bar item lists loans due within a week.

The loan page

Open a loan to see its details. The toolbar offers Edit, Mark as Returned, Reopen Loan for a returned loan, and Delete Loan….

• Generate Loan Agreement PDF produces an agreement for this loan, with the item's identity, the parties, dates and insurance value. Share Loan Agreement PDF sends it out once it exists.
• Mark as Returned closes the loan and cancels its reminders.

Reminders

Turn on loan reminders during onboarding, or from Settings ▸ General ▸ Notifications ▸ Loan Reminders. For every active loan with a return date you get two notifications:

• Loan Reminder — 7 Days, a week before the item is due back.
• Loan Due Today, on the day.

Each notification carries Mark Returned and Extend Loan actions. Marking returned from the notification asks you to unlock the device first.

Loans in reports and widgets

• The Loans report type prints an Active Loans Summary of every active and overdue loan with each item's identity numbers. See Reports.
• The Active Loans widget lists up to six loans with their due dates on the Home Screen or desktop. See Menu bar, widgets and shortcuts.
• Siri and Shortcuts can answer How many overdue loans in Collections.

Exhibitions

An Exhibitions section is planned and appears in the sidebar marked Soon. Until it arrives, record where an item has been shown in its provenance or notes, and use Place on Wall on iPhone to try an item on a real wall. See Capture and scanning.
